Client Overview StorySquad is a mobile application that promotes children's literacy and creativity by encouraging them to engage with literature and develop their reading and writing skills.
Problem Statement StorySquad had a significant challenge with user retention and engagement on its app. The current design needed to be more engaging for users, resulting in low retention rates. The client needed to redesign the app's user experience to improve retention rates, increase user engagement, and promote more reading and writing.
Project Scope The project's goal was to design and implement features that would improve user engagement and retention rates on the StorySquad app. This project included user research, design, Development, and testing.
Research and Analysis As the UX Designer for this project, my first step was to conduct extensive research to understand the user's needs and preferences. In addition, I conducted user interviews, surveys, and usability tests to gather insights into the user's needs and behaviors. This helped me identify the pain points and challenges users faced while using the app.
Based on the insights gathered, I analyzed the existing app's user flow, information architecture, and design to identify areas for improvement. For example, I created user personas and journeys to understand the user's motivations and goals when using the app. This helped me to identify the specific features and functionalities that would improve user engagement and retention.
Design and Development Using the insights gathered from the research and Analysis, I designed and implemented the following features to improve user engagement and retention rates on the StorySquad app:
Gamification: Gamification elements reward users for completing activities, reading books, and achieving milestones. This gave users a sense of accomplishment and motivated them to continue using the app.
Social Features: Social features were added that allowed users to connect with friends, join groups, and participate in challenges. This created a sense of community and encouraged users to stay engaged with the app.
Results The new features were implemented in the StorySquad app. Gamification elements and social features improved user engagement and retention rates.
Conclusion As the UX Designer for StorySquad's user engagement project, I was able to design and implement features that helped the app improve user engagement and retention rates. By conducting extensive research, analyzing user needs, and developing features that addressed pain points and challenges, the new features provided users with a more engaging and rewarding experience.

As the UX designer for Story Squad, I recognized the importance of creating a cohesive and visually appealing design for the mobile app. To achieve this, I decided to create a design style guide that would serve as a reference for design elements and ensure consistency across different screens and features.
To begin the process, I analyzed the company's branding and existing design elements. I identified the key colors, typography, and visual elements used in the company's marketing materials and messaging, and worked to integrate these elements into the design style guide.
Once I established the core design elements, I created guidelines for their usage. I established rules for color usage, typography, spacing, and created guidelines for using icons, images, and other design elements. I also included guidance on user interface components such as buttons, navigation menus, and input fields.
Using the design style guide, I was able to create consistent design elements across different screens and features of the app, even when working with different designers. The design style guide served as a reference for designers to ensure they were using the correct colors, typography, and visual elements.
In addition, the design style guide helped to streamline the design process, as designers did not have to spend time creating new design elements from scratch. Instead, they could reference the design style guide and use existing design elements, which saved time and improved efficiency.
Overall, the design style guide was an effective tool for maintaining consistency and improving the design process for Story Squad. By establishing guidelines for design elements and their usage, we were able to create a cohesive and visually appealing design for the app that aligned with the company's branding and messaging.
